Michael D. Taylor to be re-sentenced
On Tuesday, a divided Missouri Supreme Court ordered a new sentencing hearing in the capital case of Michael D. Taylor, with a new set of jurors. Taylor was too young for a death sentence when he raped and murdered a high school classmate in 1995, but later went to death row for a prison killing.

Writing for the majority, Chief Justice Laura Denvir Stith said that prosecutors failed to provide the defense with evidence that might have challenged the credibility of a prison informer. [Full story at St. Louis Post-Dispatch]

Missouri Supreme Court sets execution date for John Middleton
Missouri could see its first execution since October, 2005 on July 30th. The state supreme court says that's when prisoner John Middleton will die for killing two people in Mercer County in 1995. Middleton was identified as methamphetamine dealer who killed two people he was afraid would inform law enforcement authorities about his activities. He got death sentences for both murders.
